Kit hire agreement

Version 2026-08-22. The terms every hire runs on. Agreed when a request is sent, and here in full to read, print or sign.

This agreement is made between Lit Studios, 65a Moyle Rd, Dublin Industrial Estate, Dublin, D11 FC94 (the Studio) and the person or company named on the booking (the Hirer). It applies to equipment hired from the Studio and, where stated, to use of the studio spaces. It takes effect on the date the booking is confirmed.

  1. Authority to agree

The Hirer confirms they have read this agreement and have the authority to enter into it, personally or on behalf of the company named on the booking.

  2. Hire, not sale

Equipment is hired, never sold. The Hirer accepts the equipment as examined and in good working order. The Studio guarantees the equipment is working when it leaves the premises and is not responsible for the Hirer's failure to operate it correctly. Studio time is booked for the hours confirmed; hours beyond that are charged at the overrun rate on the rate card.

  3. Payment and late return

Charges are those quoted on the confirmed booking. Equipment is due back by 10am on the return date. A late return is charged at one full day of hire for each day or part day late until it is returned, or replaced if lost.

  4. Who may use the equipment

The equipment may only be used by the Hirer or by competent people working for them, in line with normal operating practice for that equipment and for the shoot it was hired for. The Hirer keeps the equipment in their custody and control for the whole hire, unless the Studio supplies an operator.

  5. Cancellation

Cancellation must be in writing and is charged on the notice given before the start of the booking, in addition to any courier, delivery or sub hire costs already incurred.

Equipment: more than 48 hours notice, no charge; 48 to 24 hours, 25 per cent; less than 24 hours or a no show, 50 per cent; once the equipment has left the premises, 100 per cent.

Studio days: because a booked day is a day the Studio turns other work away, more than 7 days notice, no charge; 7 days to 48 hours, 50 per cent of the day rate; less than 48 hours or a no show, 100 per cent.

Where a genuine unforeseen cause is shown, the Studio may move the booking instead of charging. Any deposit may be kept against a cancellation charge, with the balance refunded.

  6. No alterations

The equipment must not be altered, added to or modified without the Studio's written consent.

  7. Insurance

The Hirer insures the equipment for its full replacement value for the whole hire, including time in transit, and names Lit Studios as an interested party on that policy. A certificate of insurance is provided on request or on collection.

Equipment is not to be taken outside Ireland without the Studio's written permission. Where permission is given, the Hirer is responsible for customs, duties, carriage and any charges raised in another country, and hire charges continue for time in transit or held in customs.

If the required cover is not in place, the Studio may decline to release the equipment.

  8. Loss and damage

The Hirer is responsible for loss of or damage to the equipment from the time it is collected until it is back with the Studio, other than fair wear and tear. Theft must be reported to the Studio immediately and to the Gardaí, and a report reference provided.

Where equipment is lost or beyond economic repair, the charge is the cost of replacing it with the same item or the closest current equivalent, at the price the Studio can buy it for. Where it can be repaired, the charge is the cost of repair. The Studio will set out its assessment in writing with supporting costs, and the Hirer has a reasonable opportunity to inspect the equipment and to dispute that assessment. Hire charges continue at the daily rate while the equipment is being repaired or replaced.

  9. On site

The Hirer is responsible for their crew, cast and guests while at the studio, for leaving the space as they found it, and for any damage to the building or its fittings caused by them. Cyclorama and paintwork repainting, and removal of anything left behind, are charged at cost.

  10. Return

All equipment and accessories, including cables, batteries, chargers, cases and stands, are returned in the condition they were collected in, fair wear and tear excepted. The Studio accepting a return is not a waiver of any claim, including for damage found later.

  11. Liability

The Hirer indemnifies the Studio against claims, losses and reasonable legal costs arising from their use or operation of the equipment, however caused, except to the extent caused by the Studio's own negligence.

Nothing in this agreement excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where the Hirer is a consumer, this agreement does not affect their statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2022, and any term found to be unfair under that Act does not bind them.

  12. The whole agreement

This agreement, together with the confirmed booking and its equipment list, is the entire agreement between the Studio and the Hirer. Changes are only binding if agreed in writing. It is governed by the law of Ireland and the courts of Ireland have jurisdiction.
